tawa paneer tikka

Paneer tikka - The most popular Indian appetizer which is made by marinating paneer / Cottage cheese and other vegetables like onion, capsicum in a special curd / yoghurt based masala and grilling them in Oven or Tandoor.

Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup Thick curd
  • 1 tbsp besan flour
  • 1/4 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp red chilli powder
  • 1 tsp coriander powder
  • 1/2 tsp cumin powder
  • 1/2 tsp garam masala
  • 1/2 tsp pepper powder
  • salt As required
  • 1 tsp ginger garlic paste
  • 1/2 tsp kasuri methi
  • 150 grams Paneer / Cottage Cheese
  • 1 large Onion
  • 1 Capsicum green or red or both
  • 1 large Tomato

Instructions

Preparing paneer and veggies

  • cut the paneer into cubes or rectangle.
  • Dice capsicum, onion and tomato(remove the seeds).
  • Keep these aside

Marinade for paneer tikka

  • In a bowl, add hung curd, besan flour, turmeric powder, red chilli powder, coriander powder, cumin powder, garam masala, pepper powder, salt, ginger garlic paste and crushed kasuri methi. Mix well.
  • Add the paneer cubes and diced vegetables to the marinade and mix gently. The paneer and vegetables should be coated evenly.
  • Now let it rest for 3 - 4 hours in refrigerator. You can even rest it overnight.

Making Paneer tikka on tawa

  • ts time to assemble the tikka. Now the thread the marinated paneer and vegetables in a skewer. Start with Capsicum, then Onion, tomato, paneer and repeat the same.
  • Place the skewers over the tawa and cook on medium flame.
  • Keep turning the skewers now and then until all sides are cooked evenly.
  • Once done, transfer to a serving plate.
  • Garnish with onions rings and a lemon wedge.

Notes

  • Use Thick Curd for the marinade.
  • After marinating, let it for rest for minimum 3 hrs in refrigerator. 
  • You can also grill the vegetables and paneer directly over tawa, instead of threading into skewers.
  • Season the Tawa well before placing the skewers. If the tawa is not seasoned well, paneer will stick to it. For seasoning the tawa, heat the tawa. Once hot, add 2 tsp of oil and spread it across the tawa evenly.
  • soak the skewers for at least 20 mins before using. After 20 mins of soaking, pat it dry.
