Instant Rava Idli - Rava Idli Recipe without Soda

Rava Idli is an instant and easy to prepare South Indian Idli recipe.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup Rava
  • 1/2 cup Curd
  • 1 tsp Ginger chopped
  • 1 Green chillies chopped
  • 1 tsp Cumin
  • 1 tsp Peppercorn
  • few Cashews
  • 1/2 tsp Mustard seeds
  • 1/2 tsp Split urad dal
  • 1/2 tsp Gram dal
  • few Curry leaves
  • few Coriander leaves
  • 2 tbsp Oil / ghee
  • Baking soda – a pinch

Instructions

  • In a pan, add oil or ghee.
  • Add Rava/ sooji and roast on low flame for 5 mins. Remove it to a bowl.
  • In the same pan, add oil or ghee. Add mustard, split urad dal, gram dal, ginger, green chillies, curry leaves and cashews.
  • Add this to the roasted rava/ sooji along with curd.
  • Mix well and let it rest for 10 mins.
  • Now add a pinch of baking soda and mix well. Once you have added baking soda, you should steam the idlies immediately.
  • In a Idly cooker, Add water and let it boil. Meanwhile in the idli plates, apply oil or use cloth.
  • Pour a ladle full of batter in each slot. Keep this plate inside the Idli cooker and cook for 10 mins.
  • Yummy Rava Idli / Sooji Idly is ready.
  • Serve Chutney or sambar.

Notes

  • Baking soda gives the desired fluffyness to the idli. 
  • You can use Soda / Eno instead of Baking Soda.
