Ingredients

  • 2 cups Raw Mango grated
  • 1/2 tsp Fenugreek Seeds
  • 2 tbsp Red Chilli Powder
  • 1/2 tsp Turmeric Powder
  • 1/2 tsp Mustard seeds
  • 1/4 tsp Asafoetida(Hing)
  • 1/2 cup Gingelly Oil (Nallennai)
  • 1 1/2 tbsp Salt adjust as needed

Instructions

How to make Manga Thokku

  • Wash Raw Mango well. Peel the skin and grate it.
  • In a pan, dry roast the fenugreek seeds. Once it is cooled, grind it to a fine powder. keep aside.
  • In a pan, add gingelly oil/ nallennai. Once hot, add mustard seeds and asafoetida. 
  • Let the mustard seeds sputter. Now add the grated mango, turmeric powder, salt and mix well.  
  • Keep the flame low and cook till the grated mangoes turn soft. It takes about 4 - 5 minutes. 
  • Add red chilli powder to the cooked raw mango and mix well. Keep the flame low and cook till the oil oozes out of the thokku.
  • Now add fenugreek powder, mix well and Switch off the flame.
  • Let it come to room temperature. Store the thokku in an air-tight container and refrigerate for a long life. 
  • Delicious Mangai Thokku is ready!

Notes

  • You can also add jaggery, if you like your thokku to be sweet and spicy.
  • Use dry spoon for serving.
