Raw Mango Thokku | Manga Thokku Recipe – A spicy and tangy accompaniment made with grated Raw Mango. It goes best along with Curd rice or even Idli/Dosa.raw mango thokku in a bowl

Mangai Thokku is made with grated raw mango, red chilli powder and roasted fenugreek powder. Usually, for mango thokku, raw mango is grated. We can also chop into small pieces and while cooking you can mash well. This thokku tastes so good and one of the simplest thokku recipe. We have to cook the raw mango with Red Chilli powder and salt. Once it is cooked well, we have to add roasted fenugreek powder which gives nice aroma and taste to the thokku. This thokku can be stored in air tight container and refrigerated. Main thing to be noted for long life of thokku is, while handling the thokku use dry spoon only. How to make Raw Mango Thokku

  1. Wash Raw Mango well. Peel the skin and grate it.
  2. In a pan, dry roast the fenugreek seeds. Once it is cooled, grind it to a fine powder. keep aside.
  3. In a pan, add gingelly oil/ nallennai. Once hot, add mustard seeds and asafoetida.
  4. Let the mustard seeds sputter. Now add the grated mango, turmeric powder, salt and mix well.
  5. Keep the flame low and cook till the grated mangoes turn soft. It takes about 4 – 5 minutes.
  6. Add red chilli powder to the cooked raw mango and mix well.
  7. Keep the flame low and cook till the oil oozes out of the thokku.
  8. Now add fenugreek powder, mix well and Switch off the flame.
  9. Let it come to room temperature. Store the thokku in an air-tight container and refrigerate for a long life.
  10. Delicious Mangai Thokku is ready!

Ingredients

  • 2 cups Raw Mango grated
  • 1/2 tsp Fenugreek Seeds
  • 2 tbsp Red Chilli Powder
  • 1/2 tsp Turmeric Powder
  • 1/2 tsp Mustard seeds
  • 1/4 tsp Asafoetida(Hing)
  • 1/2 cup Gingelly Oil (Nallennai)
  • 1 1/2 tbsp Salt adjust as needed
