Momos is a Tibetan recipe which has become a popular street food in India. These dumplings are so versatile. You can make with your favourite stuffing and in any shape.  They are either steamed or fried. In this recipe, I have steam cooked the momos. Ingredients

  • 1 cup All Purpose Flour / Maida
  • Salt as required
  • 1 Onion – 1 finely chopped
  • 1/2 cup Carrot finely chopped
  • 1/2 cup Beans finely chopped
  • 2 tsp Garlic finely chopped
  • 2 tsp Chilli flakes
  • Pepper Powder as required
  • 1 tsp Soy sauce

Instructions

Preparation

  • In a bowl, add Maida and required salt. Add water little by little and form dough.
    Kneed well and apply oil over the surface and cover with a wet cloth. Keep this aside.

Method

  • In a pan, add oil.
  • Once hot, add chopped garlic
  • Add chopped onion and cook till it turns translucent.
  • Now add finely chopped carrot and beans. Add little salt.
  • Cook in high flame for 2-3 mins.
  • Add required chilli flakes.
  • Finally add soy sauce and mix well. Switch off the flame.
  • Now the dough and stuffing is ready. Let’s move on to shaping momos
  • Divide the dough into equal and small portion.
  • Take one ball and roll into small circles. Keep the edges thinner.
  • Now place a tbsp of stuffing in the center. Lift one side of the edge and start pleating and join them finally. Potli or money bag shaped momos is ready.
  • In a steamer or Idli cooker, add water and bring it to boil. Now place the separator and place all the momos over it for steaming.
  • Steam cook for 6- 7 minutes. Once cooked, it becomes shiny and transparent. If you overcook, it becomes rubbery.
  • Serve hot with momos chutney.

Step by Step Procedure with Pictures :

1. Keep your Ingredients Ready.

7. Finally add soy sauce and mix well.  Switch off the flame. Now the dough and stuffing is ready. Let’s move on to shaping momos

9. Now place a tbsp of stuffing in the center. Lift one side of the edge and start pleating and join them finally. Potli or money bag shaped momos is ready.

10. In a steamer or Idli cooker, add water and bring it to boil. Now place the separator and place all the momos over it for steaming.

11. Steam cook for 6- 7 minutes. Once cooked, it becomes shiny and transparent. If you overcook, it becomes rubbery.

Serve Veg Momos hot with momos chutney!
