Orange Peel Chutney – A delicious and flavourful chutney with the Orange peel. It goes well with Idli and Dosa.
We eat oranges and through away the outer skin. Ever wondered, trying out excellent chutney out of it? Believe me, this taste delicious. This chutney is full of orange flavor. How to make Orange Peel chutney
- Wash the outer the skin of orange well. Tap it in a kitchen towel. Peel the skin and chop it into small pieces.
- Heat oil in a pan and fry the orange peel in medium flame for 5 mins or till it becomes soft. Remove it from the pan.
- In the same pan, with the remaining oil add Bengal gram and urad dal. Fry till it turns golden.
- Add shallots and tomato. Fry it till turns soft.
- Add tamarind paste and coconut. Give a nice stir. Let the mixture cool.
- Add fried orange peel and the onion – tomato mixture to a mixer-grinder. Add little water and grind it to a fine paste.
- Temper the chutney with ingredients mentioned “for tempering”.
- Serve orange Zest Chutney with idly, dosa or rice.

Ingredients
- 1/2 cup Orange Peel from 1 orange
- 5 Shallots
- 1 Tomato small
- 3 tbsp Grated coconut
- 2 tsp Bengal gram
- 2 tsp Urad dal
- 2 or 3 Dry red chilies
- 1 tsp Tamarind extract
- Salt – as required
- 2 tsp Oil – 2 tbsp
For tempering:
- 1/4 tsp Mustard seeds
- 1/4 tsp Split Urad dal
- 1/4 tsp Bengal gram
- 5 Curry leaves
- 2 tsp Oil
