This Spring Onion Paratha is different from other Parathas. There is no stuffing in this paratha. Instead chopped Spring Onion and spices are added to the Wheat Flour and then Kneaded. Care should be taken while adding water to form the dough. Spring onion will leave release water while kneading. This dough does not need much resting time as spring onion will release water while resting also. Maximum resting time can be 10 mins.

I bought spring onions for making Fried rice. I had some leftover Spring onions after using for fried rice. So I made Spring Onion Paratha with the leftover and it was a super hit at home. Every bite was so flavorful and we loved it. Spring Onion Paratha

Ingredients

  • 2 cups Whole Wheat flour
  • 1/2 cup Spring Onions chopped
  • 1 tsp Red Chilli Powder
  • 1/2 tsp Garam Masala
  • 1/2 tsp Ajwain / Omam
  • 1/2 tsp Cumin / Jeera
  • Salt as required
  • Oil or Ghee as required

Instructions

  • Keep your Ingredients Ready.
  • In a Mixing Bowl, add 2 cups of Wheat flour, Required salt, 1 tsp of Red chilli Powder, ½ tsp Garam Masala, ½ tsp Ajwain , ½ tsp Jeera, 2 tsp of oil and the main ingredient, ½ cup of Chopped Spring Onions.
  • Mix everything with your fingers.
  • Now add water in parts and mix well and knead the dough. Be careful while adding water, as spring onion will release water. Form dough which is smooth and tight. Maximum resting time can be 10 mins.
  • Form small balls out of the dough.
  • Take a ball, dust it with flour and flatten it with your palm.
  • Roll into 5 – 6 inch circle.
  • Heat a tawa. Once the tawa is hot, place the rolled Paratha.
  • Cook for 30 seconds on one side, flip the paratha.
  • Spread oil or ghee over the paratha and cook for 30 seconds.
  • Flip again and Spread oil or ghee.
  • Remove it to a serving plate, when both sides are cooked.
  • Repeat the same procedure for remaining Parathas.
  • Serve it hot!

Notes

  • As a variation, you can add finely chopped Green Chilies instead of Red chili Powder.
  • You can also add Potatoes to the dough. Cook the potatoes and mash it well. Add this while kneading the dough.

How to make Spring Onion Paratha Recipe:

Serving Ideas:

  • As we have added red chilli powder, garam masala, Ajwain and jeera, the Parathas will be mildly spiced.  You can serve with Pickle, plain curd or any raita of your choice.

Notes:

  • You can stack the parathas over the paper towel in a hot case, if you are planning to prepare ahead. Close it with a paper towel before closing the case.
